A Transformative Evening with Selam Debs: Reflections on Intersectional Feminism

Writer: QCICQCIC

QCIC, in collaboration with BPW H&PE, was honored to host Selam Debs for an insightful presentation on Intersectional Feminism—a session that left a lasting impact on over 45 engaged attendees from the region and beyond. The discussion was powerful, accessible, and necessary, encouraging deep reflection on feminism through the lens of privilege, equity, and systemic change.

Jackie Dales, Founder/CEO of Rainbow Caregivers, shared:"Selam is an exceptional speaker who came into the space with a peaceful heart, creating an environment where we could be vulnerable about our experiences with white feminism. She encouraged us to adjust our lens from privilege to equity, delivering a whole course worth of knowledge in a short session. Each point hit home. This kind of conversation is critical—one that could truly bring people together and inspire culturally responsible action.

What a wonderful opportunity it would be to be able to share time with each other to really dive into this conversation in person! I believe that an experience like this could bring people together in positive and progressive ways. It would provide folks with an opportunity to clear out old ways of knowing and being and replace them with ways that could inspire us to equitable action in culturally responsible ways! I hope to see more of these opportunities in the future 🤎"

The demand and value of Selam's presentation for our rural/smalltown region (Bay of Quinte) was clear—attendees expressed a strong desire for longer sessions to continue these crucial conversations.

"Just as we have many parts in one body — and all the parts do not have the same function — so we, who are many, are ONE in Christ and everyone parts of one another. We have gifts that differ according to the grace that was given to us.”
